Podcast 33 - The Pursuit of Happyness

My wife and I own a small neighborhood movie theatre. As a result, we get to watch a lot of movies. Better yet, we get to choose which movies we'll show. Earlier this year we showed several movies that I found very inspirational. One of these was The Pursuit of Happyness, based on the life of Chris Gardner. Some people think the movie is about becoming wealthy. It isn't. The movie is about pursuing your dreams.

This episode of the Shards of Consciousness podcast is based on a post I wrote about The Pursuit of Happyness in January, 2007.

  • Rick:

I agree! I saw that movie and it was not only inspirational but it also reminded me of the time when I used to work on Wall Street as a stockbroker during the 1990's.

  • Hello Stephen,

I do hope you didn't have to go through what Chris went through. :)

I know little about life on Wall Street, but if the film was any indication, it takes a lot of dedication and focus. If you can work there, you can do anything you set your sights on.

  • I haven't seen the movie but I had a chance to hear Chris Gardner speak recently. He has a very inspirational story.
I don't have to go through what he did to be successful and I don't think most of us have to. Something to be thankful for.

  • Hello James,

I'm glad you got the chance to see Chris Gardner. The real thing is better than the movie.

  • Rick:

Well, while I wasn't exactly homeless in the beginning of my career as a stockbroker, there were people on welfare making more than me! Then all that began to change when I was in my third and fourth year at Merrill Lynch. Abundance began to pour from the heavens like never before. It was quite an experience!

Your blog is a very interesting one and I enjoy reading your posts. I am one of your RSS subscribers so keep writing!

By the way, I wonder if your readers would be interested in seeing a YouTube video that I put together demonstrating the power of a fifth grade teacher's three words on a young deaf boy's life (me) who went on to become a pilot, stockbroker, writer, etc? Send me a private email if you're interested in seeing it. And at that point, if you wish to share it with your readers, that'd be great!

  • Hi Stephen,

Some of those people on welfare were probably still there when you abundance starting pouring in.

I plan on writing for a while, so keep an eye out.

  • Yes, some of those people on welfare were still there when abundance started to pour in. I would have to agree on that becuase it's a "mindset." I've been doing so much reading these days about LOA , "Think and Grow Rich" and many other books like Abraham-Hicks, etc. They are all saying the same thing - attracting abundance is a mindset.
