If You Have a Clouded Face, Stay Home

Some days you just need to stay in. Vivekananda once wrote

The first sign that you are becoming religious is that you are becoming cheerful. When a man is gloomy, that may be dyspepsia, but it is not religion....If you have a clouded face, do not go out that day, shut yourself up in your room. What right have you to carry this disease out into the world?

I've had dyspepsia the past several days as a result of an intimate relationship with a stomach virus. This has led to a clouded face, that I've finally had the good sense to shut up into a room. On the bright side, it's enforced a fast that I've sorely needed.

I can think. I can wait. I can fast.

What other skills do you really need to content?

Fasting is a skill I've long let go. It feels good to learn it again.
